(Sorry for writing in English)

I'm a Brit living in Dubai and the Very Very Proud owner of a March '52 Beetle. I've owned the car around 3 years and just finished the restoration.  The Car was originally registered in Finland back in '52. I'm keen to try find some history of the car if possible. I have the original registration/service document with several stamps and would like to share these but unable to upload photos. Stamps appear to be from Hameen Laaninhallitus and Katsastettu Besikigad but honestly not sure what it says. I sent a Pic of the document to a very helpful Finnish Chap on Instagram he recommended I contact here and advised the Reg No HJZ-12 . The Car is Azure Blue as original and Vin No is 1-0334773.

Any history or information on the Car would be amazing and photos can be seen on my Instagram @Samba1967.

Many Many Thanks

Len

When using the forum on a computer it's pretty simple to add photos by Drag&Drop or using the link at the bottom of the screen.

Reg starting with H means the car was registered in Hämeen lääni, as states the Reg stamp (registered=katsastettu, in Finnish, besiktad = same in Swedish, as Finland is bilingual). Hämeen lääni was a county/state in south western part of central Finland.

This Split was owned by Janne, see above. I almost bought it in January 2014 but decided (unfortunately) against buying it. The original engine number 1-0404184 was INTACT and fully restored and rebuilt with nos parts and went with car, see picture. The car was sold a Finnish flipper who immediately sold it to Bulgaria to a large collector of Splits where it was restored (at least body metal work) and then sold to Belgium. I was told by the Bulgarian buyer he did not get the original engine with the car. He was asking me about this engine in Bad Camberg as he wanted to buy the car back from Belgium.  If you do not have the original engine, you might want to ask the Finnish buyer where the engine is now. He is active on this site. Who knows, he might still have the engine or maybe can give you a lead on it´s current whereabouts. Would be great to reunite the original engine with the car. After all, it remained with the car from 1952 to 2014.

Please also post pictures of the car here, they cannot be seen on instagram unless you sign in/up. A good thing you cherish the identity of the vehicle, history is a big part of the vehicle.

Thank You very much. I would love to find the original engine and if possible the original owner. The attempt at restoration was poor when I bought it but not sure how long it had been done. I took back to bare metal and started again.

I bought it unseen like we know we shouldn't but........

Was advised complete vehicle which it was NOT !! Advised was body restored to Primer which was awful and I took to bare metal and started again.

Period correct engine block but only few engine parts most not usable and all in a box.

I have a 2.4 with Weber 48's and a freeway flyer box.  Lots upgrades Brakes etc....

These Pics are the day it arrived in Dubai.

The Negative points above are irrelevant now as I love it and love driving it.

Len, this car was arrived from Germany to the Finnish importer Autola Oy on 7 April 1952 and was delivered on 10 April 1952 to the first owner "Heikkisen Konepaja Oy" which can be translated "Heikkinen Metal Works Inc.". The original color as you know is Azur Blau, Type 10/11C. I can inform you the original ignition key and door key codes in a private message if you are interested.

It usually took about 2 weeks for the Beetles to arrive from Germany to Helsinki so you car was produced in late March 1952.

Heikkisen Konepaja, the original delivery address was the local VW dealer in Kuopio, see the company stock and their add from 1952 in the local newspaper. It says that VW was the most sold car in Finland in 1951 and also that import numbers are rising and asks customers to sign up for a waiting list to buy a Volkswagen which is available after a waiting period
